Here's a great little
project that you can take to your desired level and/or
direction. Bought in 2005 as an original 4 cylinder
chassis two door sedan that had been modified into a stake
truck. As 1 of the owners of the Hot Rod Shop of
Milwaukee and being a Brookville body dealer, it was
appropriate to install a steel reproduction body on the
chassis and use as a showroom display model. The
thoughts were to build it as though it was a "Barn Find"
as he had all original front metal, chassis tires and
wheels etc...
It was
completely disassembled down to bare frame, cleaned and
painted the entire frame and fitted a wonderful original
32 For V8 radiator. The power train now consists of a
excellent 39 Ford Transmission w/new bearings, synchro,
etc. A 1948 Ford 59L motor was located that had been
bored and stroked 276 cubic inches. The "L" blocks were
used in Army Tanks & Canadian School Buses, they have a
factory relief, better alloy casting and more nickel....
The
body came as bare metal, well oiled and needed to be
properly cleaned. Minor body work, light picking, filing
and a bit of seam fitting/fitting was required. The body
floor (top/bottom) was painted in a semi gloss black and
the exterior was primed in urethane primer to be ready
for finish. The rear fenders are also Brookville steel.
The original dash and garnish moldings have been
distressed as though to appear as 80 year old weathered
wood grain. An original 32 Ford 3W seat & frame with new
L-B cushions was acquired from a donor car which had
already been covered with reproduction Bedford cloth. It
has genuine steel armrests and the interior is all
there, except carpets. The headliner will need to be
redone, otherwise everything is there to finish the car
(regulators, channel kits, glass patterns, etc.)...
There
is a brand new very expensive outside reproduction tack
strip, including new antique vinyl outside roof material
and locking rubber strip. The exhaust is half done using
new Reds Headers and extensions. The motor has new water
pumps with ceramic seals. A new old stock Tattersfield
dual intake manifold and good Evans Heads were used. All
new wiring installed front to back and all lights operate
(new OEM style reproduction 6V positive ground loom).
The car starts, runs, stops, cools and charges. It has
been driven around the block, steers beautifully and
clutch action great... |
